Year 5 Planetarium

This half term, year 5's theme is the solar system and so the first week back after christmas, we had a visitor who brought with him an inflatable dome. This was no ordinary dome. In this dome was a short film about the history of solar system which was projected onto one side of the dome in order for the students to be able to watch. The visitor then turned the whole dome dark with the stars of the solar system all over the sides and he described certain stars and their shapes. One set he described was 'the plough' and it was named this because of the way the stars appear in the sky.

After this dome experienced had finished, children were allowed to ask the visitor any question about the solar system for which they wanted to know the answer. The visitor was full of knowledge and the children now know a lot more than before the planetarium session.
