Spelling Bee 6-11 November

The Spelling Bee will run as follows:

As part of our work to promote high standards of spelling throughout the school, next week sees the return of our annual Spelling Bee. We feel that this is a motivating and fun way to celebrate the achievements of all the children and has been successful in previous years.

The Spelling Bee will run as follows:

Round One: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday

Each class will be given a list of spelling words from their class teacher. These words will be taken from the statutory spelling words, as set out by the curriculum. Children will be tested on a selection of these words on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. They will score points for their house for full marks and good effort.

Class Spell Off: Thursday

The highest scorers from each class will be invited to take part in a class spell off. Here, spelling words will be from the statutory list (which can be found in their organisers). Again children will win points for their house.

Final: Friday

The highest scorer in each class, will take part in a final in front of an audience during assembly time. Again, house points will be on offer, as well as some prizes too.

In addition to the spelling bee, there will also be a Spelling Treasure Hunt around school, which will also provide an opportunity for your child to earn points for their house team.

We believe that this structure gives all children the opportunity to earn points for their house and take part in what should be a fun event, whilst also reinforcing important work on Spelling. We would be grateful of your support with helping your children to learn their spellings and provide encouragement throughout the week.

Kind Regards,

Miss Mee and Miss Stallard
