What's cooking tonight?

At the moment we have six members in our Let's Get Cooking Club. We meet on a Tuesday night after school and cook lots of exciting and different things. We always try and taste the food that we have made even if we think we won't like it!!

17th January - This week Let's Get Cooking started again with 6 new members from Year 4.  For our first dish we cooked Scone Based Pizzas.  We learned lots of new skills including measuring, weighing, rubbing in, rolling, chopping and garnishing.  Whilst the pizzas were cooking we managed to do an excellent job of washing up and clearing away.  The pizzas smelt fantastic and we couldn't wait to taste them. We have taken the recipe home so that we can cook them again or even make fruit scones with sultanas or cherries.  We can't wait to see what we are cooking next week!

The dishes we have cooked in Let's Get Cooking have included: Scone based pizza, Spaghetti Bolognaise and Tiramisu, Pumpkin soup, Parkin, Tasty Turkey Tikka Balls with Peach Chutney, lots of salads and sandwich fillings for Parent's Open Night, Mince pies and finally some mini Christmas Cakes.

We made mini Christmas cakes a couple of weeks ago, we needed to add lots of dried fruit to our mixture and most importantly needed to make a wish as we stirred our Christmas Cakes. Mrs Briggs had to take them home to cook because they take a long while to cook, she said her house smelt lovely that night. We made 15 mini cakes altogether.

At tonight's Club we have decorated our cakes with marzipan and icing! They look fantastic. We even made some holly leaves and berries to decorate the cakes with. We were really surprised with how easy it was and how lovely the finished cakes looked. We have each taken one home and the rest will be on sale at the Christmas Fayre!!

A big thank you to Mrs Wheatley and Mrs Hayes , who have been our regular helpers! And also thank you to the other parents who have helped at different sessions, we hope you enjoyed it!
