County Finals @ Etwall

Chaucer Girls Football team travelled to John Port School in Etwall this week for the Derbyshire Finals

Chaucer Girls Football team travelled to John Port School in Etwall this week for the Derbyshire Finals. The competition against the other 9 best teams in the county was tough and all the matches were very tight.

In Group B, Chaucer's first match was against Dronfield Stonelow. Emma East and Emily Pickering went closest to scoring, while Daisy Mears-Miller made an important save in goal...and the game finished 0-0. The 2nd match was versus Lawn Primary. This game provided even fewer goalscoring opportunities and again the result was a nil-nil draw.

Brookfield Primary were the next opponents. Although the game was also close and mainly a midfield battle trypical of the tournament, Brookfield took advantage of their pace on the counter-attack, scoring 3 goals on breakaways as Chaucer pressed forward.

Chaucer finished off their involvement with another 0-0 draw against Fairmeadows Foundation Primary School.

Although Chaucer failed to win a game, the girls should take consolation from the fact that they were solid defensively, keeping 3 clean sheets and have still only lost 1 match out of the 9 they have played this season. Their target is to improve their passing and creativity, as it was the lack of goals scored that hampered their progress. [When I find out Chaucer's final placing, I will add it to the Roll of Honour.]

Congratulations to Portway Junior School, who looked impressive throughout and went on to beat Mundy CofE in the final.

Chaucer's player of the tournament was Aaliyah Proctor. Most players did well defensively, but Aaliyah's powerful clearances stood out.

Many thanks to Mrs Brandrick and Mrs Proctor for their help.
