Chaucer's Table Tennis Team continued its fine run of form at The Erewash Finals this evening at Kirk Hallam.
Following Chaucer's success at the North Schools event last week, Grange Primary School from Long Eaton were the latest opponents, after they won the Erewash South Schools competition, and they gave Chaucer by far its sternest test so far this campaign.
On the whole, the boys contingent of Jyamor Manzano, Sam Parkes, Edward Moss and Ashton Anderson found their Grange counterparts to be very tough and skilful opposition. The boys played well and most of the games were reasonably close but Chaucer was only able to win a couple of fixtures. However, the girls quartet of Emily Pickering, Emily Hopkins, Katelyn Hanson & Iris Castro (c) picked up enough points to salvage the result. Thanks to great consistency of performance, 7 of 8 girls matches went Chaucer's way! Ultimately, this gave Chaucer a narrow overall victory.
Now that Chaucer are Erewash Table Tennis Champions, the next phase of the competition is the Derbyshire School Games Table Tennis County Finals, which will take place next Tuesday (2nd December) afternoon at Springwell Community College, Middlecroft Road, Staveley, Chesterfield, S43 3NQ. Spectators will be welcome.
Thanks to Grange for being great challengers and to Hannah Gill & the Kirk Hallam sports leaders for their management of the event. Thanks also to Mrs Hopkins for helping with transport again and to Mrs Wheatley, the school's resident photographer / cheerleader. Thanks as well to all the other parents, who continue to be so supportive and flexible throughout this ongoing adventure!
