Table Tennis County Finals

Both sets of players can be extremely proud of what they have accomplished over the last fortnight on the back of just a few weeks of practise

Chaucer's Y5/6 Table Tennis Teams put in great efforts at the Derbyshire County Finals this week at Springwell Community College in Staveley, Chesterfield.

The boys (Jyamor Manzano, Ashton Anderson, Edward Moss & Sam Parkes) had a tricky group, consisting of Chinley and Dronfield. Despite playing some of their best games of the last month, the calibre of opposition proved too great and Chaucer lost both matches 6-2. Overall, the boys' team came joint 7th.

The girls (Iris Castro (c), Emily Hopkins, Emily Pickering and Katelyn Hanson) fared a little better. An opening 4-4 draw against Springfield was followed by a close 5-3 victory over Pinxton. The final group game against, group-winners, Dale was difficult and Chaucer lost heavily.

Those results were nearly identical to Springfield's but it was Springfield who progressed to the semi-finals due to them losing to Dale by a score of 6-2, which was superior to our 7-1 defeat. The girls were that close to getting into the last 4! However, they had to settle for joint 5th overall.

Both sets of players can be extremely proud of what they have accomplished over the last fortnight on the back of just a few weeks of practise. Their positive attitudes and determination have helped them all achieve a good results and a great deal of improvement.

Many thanks to Mrs Hopkins for helping with transport, also to Mrs Wheatley and the Manzano family for coming to cheer the children on at the event.
