Lightning Lewis Strikes Twice

Yesterday Chaucer sent 7 children to compete in an Erewash School Sports swimming gala at Victoria Park.

The girls (Emily Hopkins, Emily Pickering, Ellie Wilson & Evie Sisson) found the competition very tough and were unable to make it through to any finals despite some brave performances.

The boys (Finn Elliott-Hufton, Morgan Wilson and Lewis Brown) coped well with the being a swimmer short and having to double up in many of their races and were in the top 4 for the Boys' Freestyle Relay. However, in the individual events, Lewis Brown was undoubtedly the star of the show.

He made it to the finals of the Backstroke, Freestyle and Butterfly. His butterfly stroke, in particular, drew gasps of admiration from the spectators as he powered through the water like a dolphin!

Putting aside any thoughts of tiredness, Lewis claimed Backstroke gold on the "touch" and a close 2nd in the Freestyle. Lewis rediscovered his golden touch in the Butterfly final, winning with comparative ease.

Congratulations to Scargill, who won the overall competition, while Chaucer came 6th.

Thanks to Mrs Wheatley for helping with chauffeur duties.
