Football Festival Fun

Chaucer Girls Y4 Football team had a memorable day out at the Nottinghamshire FA's Girls' Football Festival.

Chaucer Girls Y4 Football team had a memorable day out at the Lee Westwood Sports Centre, Nottingham Trent University, taking part in the Nottinghamshire FA's Girls' Football Festival.

Much to the girls' delight, Chaucer began the event with a spot of face painting and hair braiding... There was also the chance to play on a Wii and ipads in the interactive trailer before moving onto a goalkeeping session, complete with crash mats for the girls to dive onto!

Next, Chaucer's girls were empowered at a referee's tutorial, where they were armed with whistles and learnt how to show yellow and red cards with respect (or not!).

Next on the agenda were a skills session and a freestyle workshop before the final indoor portion of the festival: Speed Cage, Batak Boards, Target Shoot and a Quick Feet Challenge.

After a quick change of scenery, outside to the artificial pitches, Chaucer played four 5-a-side fixtures against some of the other schools in attendance.

Chaucer were a little unlucky to only draw the first 2 matches (0-0 and 1-1 respectively) but got stronger as the event wore on to claim a pair of one-sided victories (4-1 and 3-0). The whole squad [Levi "Wally" Whitehead, "Mini Aaliyah" Hemming, Madeline "Loony" Ludlam (c), Kiera Broderick, "Deadly" Danae Matthew, "Lethal" Lucy May Stevenson, Jessica Stanfield, Chloe "Doctor" Proctor & "Jazzy" Julia Skrowronska] contributed extremely well, with all of them showing great character to make light of the unseasonal cold, wet weather.

Upon completion of our fixtures, Chaucer went back into the sports hall to meet 2 of Notts County Ladies' star players (Laura-Jayne O'Neill and Danielle Buet), see the Women's FA Cup and witness the all-important dance off between Berry the Bear (WSL mascot) and Mrs Magpie (Notts County Ladies mascot). Controversially, Berry the Bear won.

Many thanks to the Proctor family and Mrs Broderick for their help with transport and their vociferous vocal support from the sidelines!
