Chaucer-Ashgate Challenge

an Ashgate defender took pity on us and scored an own-goal

Chaucer Girls Y5/6 team played out a competitive match against Ashgate yesterday.

Unfortunately Chaucer lost the game 2-1 despite playing well, dominating for long periods and having many more attempts on goal than the opposition. Chaucer's forwards were so wasteful in front of goal, they could have played all day and still not been able to score! At one point, an Ashgate defender even took pity on our poor shooting and scored an own-goal from Emilio Pickering's corner, which was lucky because we were never going to manage to score by ourselves!

The result means the "Chaucer-Ashgate Challenge Cup" was handed over to Ashgate for the first time. Congratulations to them and Mr Odell but we'll be doing our best to take back the trophy next year.

Although everyone performed pretty well, Chaucer's player of the game was "Marvellous" Martyna Kluch, who was outstanding in a defensive midfield role, shielding the defence.

[Squad: "Mad" Madi White, Emily "Emilio" Pickering, "Classy" Iris Castro, "Krazy" Katelyn Hanson, Aaliyah "Doctor" Proctor, Emma "Beasty" East (c), Katie "Skill" Mill, Martyna Kluch, "Jumpin" Julia Welnowska, "Jazzy" Julia Skrowronska, "Mini" Aaliyah Hemming, Levi "Wally" Whitehead.]

Thanks to Miss Stallard, the Proctor clan and Mrs Hemming for their support. Thanks to Mr Smith, who did a sterling job as the match referee (although there were calls of "offside" for Ashgate's winning goal!); for his in-depth match report see below..............
