District Sports Round-Up

The Chaucer team was very consistent. Of the 20 finals, Chaucer got through to 17 of them!

Chaucer's Athletes produced another tremendous effort last Monday in the Ilkeston District School Sports Competition at Rutland.

[Chaucer team; (Y3) Carmen Jackson, Chloe Knight, Harrison Hazard, Bayley Higgins, (Y4) Levi Whitehead, Lucy May Stevenson, George Levers, Archie Smith, (Y5) Bethany Fretwell, Charlotte Nuttall, Katie Mill, Bethanie Glenn, Morgan Wilson, Harley Higgins, Jack Mercer, Cai Murden, Joel Searcy, (Y6) Emily Pickering, Evie Sisson, Macie Lees-Vince, Katelyn Hanson, Oliver Burrows, Liam Flitter, Finn Elliott-Hufton and Tyler Place.]

Competing in 20 different events (such as sprints, egg & spoon races, beanbag pick-up races, skipping races, obstacle races and sprint relays) the children first had to attempt to make their way through qualifying heats in order to get into a final. Only the top 2 from each heat and a fastest loser would get through. Those athletes that earnt a spot in the final could earn points for their school.

The Chaucer team was very consistent. Of the 20 finals, Chaucer got through to 17 of them!

Carmen Jackson, Liam Flitter, Bayley Higgins, Archie Smith, Bethany Fretwell, Oliver Burrows, the Y5 Boys' Relay Team and the Y6 Boys' Relay Team all qualified for their finals by winning their respective heats but many other snuck through in 2nd or as a lucky loser...the Y6 Girls Relay Team even had time to drop the baton and still qualified as the fastest loser!

Many of Chaucer's competitors achieved high place finishes in the finals. Carmen came 2nd in the Y3 50m Sprint. George won the Y4 60m Sprint. Chloe Knight won the Y3 Egg & Spoon, while Bayley was 3rd for the boys. Lucy May and Archie both won their Y4 Bean Bag Pick-Up races. The Girls' and Boys' Y6 Relay teams both finished first.

Despite those efforts and many other creditable performances, Chaucer was pushed into 2nd place by a solitary point! Congratulations to Granby.

1st = Granby (64), 2nd = Chaucer (63), 3rd = St Thomas (55), 4th = Hallam Fields (51), 5th = Ockbrook, 6th = Kensington, 7th = Scargill, 9th = Ladywood, 10th = Cotmanhay, 11th = Stanley Common, 12th = Mapperley.

Thanks to Mrs Wilson for helping to walk up to Rutland with the team.
