Chaucer's Girls Football team demonstrated great pace, power and determination to continue its unbeaten streak and win all 3 of its games at Kirk Hallam in the Erewash Finals last week.
Firstly, Chaucer faced Sawley, who had drawn with us 0-0 in the previous qualification tournament. This time "Jumpin" Julia Welnowska and Aaliyah "Doctor" Proctor found the back of the net as Chaucer ran out comfortable 2-0 winners. (Player of the game: Aaliyah Proctor.)
Cheered on by a vocal supporters club, the Chaucer girls then faced a double header against the 2 Hallam Fields teams that had made it to the Finals.
Against Hallam Fields "Lime", Julia once again opened the scoring, following an incisive counter-attack. Her nifty footwork to chop the ball inside the last defender was a memorable highlight. Aaliyah again joined her on the scoresheet with a crisp finish and CJS claimed another 2-0 victory. (Player of the game: Julia Welnowska.)
Lastly, Aaliyah's powerful long-range strike was enough to give the team a 1-0 win over Hallam Fields "Pink". (Player of the game: Madison White.)
The girls all played very well throughout and were thoroughly determined to succeed. Their hard work and bravery meant that once again Madeline in goal didn't have a single shot to save and only had to pick the ball up once! Since Chaucer's girls had a 100% record, they finished top of the group, won the tournament and are through to the Derbyshire County Finals at John Port School, Etwall on November 12th.
Many thanks to Erewash SSP and Kirk Hallam for arranging the tournament. Also thanks to the Proctors and Mr Nuttall for their help with transport and photography!
