Futsal Finalists!

The 'A' Team went through the competition unbeaten, thanks in the main to some superb attacking performances by Charlie Palmer and Ellis Briggs.

Chaucer Juniors took two Year 5/6 teams to Wilsthorpe College in Long Eaton to take part in the latest local indoor football (futsal) tournament.

The 'A' Team went through the competition unbeaten, thanks in the main to some superb attacking performances by Charlie Palmer and Ellis Briggs.

The first match saw Chaucer 'A' relinquish a 2 goal lead before drawing 2-2 with Scargill. They were, however, far more ruthless against Chaucer 'B', claiming a 7-0 win despite Cody Tucker's heroics in goal for the 'B' team. In the final game, they faced Dovedale in what turned out to be an end-to-end goalfest. Chaucer 'A' built up a big early lead and eventually prevailed 7-5! Defences on top..?

All of that meant that the 'A' team finished joint top with Scargill Juniors but lost out on goal difference (by virtue of a single goal!). Fortunately, being runner-up was good enough for Chaucer to earn an a place at the area Finals at Kirk Hallam later this year. We will go to the Finals with some optimism but the team will need to be at its disciplined best to be competitive.

The inexperienced Chaucer 'B' team had a difficult afternoon, losing all 3 matches. Nevertheless, they left with their heads held high after some spirited performances. The 'B' team players all demonstrated positive attitudes and refrained from "finger-pointing" in the face of adversity. Furthermore, the 'B' team provided the highlight of the whole tournament in their match against Scargill as the keeper, Cody Tucker, scored a long-range thunderbolt from inside his own goal area!

Many thanks to Mrs Palmer, Mrs Wheatley and Mrs Briggs who helped Mr Smith and myself transport the teams.
