U8 Football Festival @ Pride Park

Eight lucky Year 3 children had an opportunity to play on the "hallowed" turf of Derby County's Pride Park pitch at an U8 Football Festival.

The format of the festival was largely uncompetitive, with the main aims to have fun and encourage the children take a greater interest in playing football throughout their school lives. Hopefully one or two will be inspired by the experience. Who knows, if they continue to Dream, Believe and Achieve, perhaps one of the young players will become the next Rory Delap [identified as an interested spectator at the stadium]?

The team played seven 6-a-side matches against teams from Dovedale, South Wingfield, Grampian, Walter Evans and Hardwick. There were plenty of ups-and-downs on the pitch and, after a succession of very close, hectic games, Chaucer finished with a record of 2 wins, 1 draw and 4 defeats. However, regardless of results, the Chaucer children did well to contain their excitement and conduct themselves extremely well throughout the day.

Many thanks to the families that came along to support the team. For more photos (courtesy of the irreplaceable Mrs Wheatley) please click /gallery/?pid=3&gcatid=1&albumid=83.
