Centenary Tree Planting

To mark 100 years since the outbreak of World War 1

The project was organised by the Ilkeston Advertiser, and the English Oak tree was supplied by the 'Pride In Erewash' team led by Richard Windsor. The planting took place in Chaucer Park.

Sarah Bould, the senior reporter for the Advertiser came along too

The Ilkeston Advertiser's project was called 'Tiser's Pennies For Heroes Campaign'. It has ran for the past few months, the public being asked to collect pennies and taking them to the Town Hall or Nationwide. The campaign has managed to raise just over £400, which has paid for the Oak tree and the remainder of the money going to the Royal British Legion.

Chaucer Infant School and Chaucer Junior School were asked to the ceremony

Mrs Starling's Nurture Group did our planting as they have been studying WW1

Thanks for asking us, it was a honour to be part of the town's next bit of history!
