Remembrance Day

Remembering the war fallen in this centenary year of the outbreak of World War 1

Mrs Upton and I had the honour of taking the children who had planted the Cenotaph up a few weeks ago to the Remembrance service on the market place. They fully deserved to be there to pay their respects, after getting soaked in the rain doing the planting. The Polyanthus and Tulips will look beautiful though next year, keep an eye out if going past the market place

We met some lovely war veterans, Ernie Turner is in the first photo along with the children

The service is led by the Ilkeston branch of The Royal British Legion.

Because of the children's brilliant planting, after the service we were invited to the Town Hall and into the Mayor's Parlour by Councillors and school governors James Dawson and Glennice Birkin. We also took along our new Gardening Club member W.Ilson Gnome

Thank you for our refreshments and tour of the Parlour, the children had a lovely time
