Planting At West Park For RHS Chelsea 2015
We have started our initial planting for Chelsea Flower Show
Our growing challenge has started alongside 'Miracle Gro' who sponsors the stand at RHS Chelsea Flower Show. This year's theme is 'Food For Life', which involves mainly growing vegetables. We again have wonderful support from Richard Windsor who heads the 'Pride In Erewash' campaign with Erewash Borough Council, and we also have the continued support from John the Manager at West Park Nurseries.
We have two experiments to do. Firstly we have had to sow 'Aquadulce Claudia' Broad Bean seeds and 'Bright Lights' Swiss Chard. In March we will return to transplant them into three different growing composts, and will study the results. The composts will be:
Normal garden soil
50/50 mix of garden soil and our school compost contents
50/50mix of garden soil and school compost, and a Miracle Gro product called 'Magic Start'
Then, in the following weeks we will measure the height of the Broad Beans, and count the amount of leaves on the Swiss Chard. We will be assessing the progress of 15 plants in total, 5 in each growing condition. The experiment is to discover the difference, if any the different composts give
As well as growing these, we have also planted some Tomatoes, Carrots and Cabbage
