Rob Smith Visits Chaucer Garden

Rob was the winner of the TV Show 'Big Allotment Challenge 2015'

What an exciting afternoon!

We were very privileged to have Rob come and visit us at Chaucer Junior School, and our school garden

Firstly Mrs Upton introduced Rob to everyone in assembly. Then he spoke a bit about himself and answered some very good questions asked by the children. Mrs Smith then led the whole school into singing him a song, which featured 'Chelsea Flower Show', very nice indeed. Some of the Year 4 children presented Rob with some 'Thank You' cards, of which he really liked

We then went out into the school garden to show him what we had been doing, and growing

Rob has great gardening knowledge, and started gardening when he was a little boy with his Grandad. His passion is 'Heritage' growing, which are the varieties that are becoming very rare and need to be protected, and are also the not so common varieties. He very kindly bought our garden a gift of 'Asparagus Peas' and 'Currant Tomatoes'. Whilst we had Rob in our garden he decided to help us with our 'Potato Council Competition' harvesting, which was very exciting

We then showed him what we had been growing in our new raised beds

We had a great afternoon

I then took him for a well earned Afternoon Tea at Trowell Garden Centre

Thank you Rob for coming to visit us!
