We enjoyed making these bird feeders ready for the RSPB #BigGardenBirdWatch.

The national bird watch will take place over the weekend of the 27th January. Its aim is to give some idea of the population of the different varieties of birds in the UK. People are asked to take part over this weekend to help with the survey. We will be doing ours around the school garden on the 29th January.

In preparation though the RSPB gave ideas for different bird feeders. So we decided to make these simple apple ones. All you need to do is take the core out of the apple, tie some twine through the hole to hang it up with, push a stick through the bottom of it to make a perch and finally stick some sunflower seeds around the apple for the birds to peck out. Hopefully the birds will come to visit so we can count how many we see. You have to total your results after one hour of watching them. The results of all the findings across the UK will be announced on the 28th March on the RSPB website.

Happy bird watching!
