Polite Reminders

Punctuality & Lateness

Thank you to all the children who are punctual for school.

Please ensure your child is in school for 8:55am. The side gate will be closed at this time. and children arriving later have to enter through the main entrance. We encourage punctuality in order for children to be in and settled promptly ready for learning.

The school day begins at 8:55am and any child arriving after registration receives a late mark (L). Please help your child to be punctual.

Leave of Absence (Term-Time Holidays)

Since 1st September 2013, the school has been unable to authorise any term-time holidays unless there are exceptional circumstances.

Parents needing a leave of absence for exceptional circumstances should contact the school office for a Request Form and complete the form at least 2 weeks before the anticipated start date.

A copy of the Chaucer's Attendance Policy is available for download here.

Reporting Absence

If your child is absent from school, please inform us in the morning of every day of the absence from school, giving the child's name, class and reason for absence. A message can be left on Option 1 of the school phone.

Contact Details

Please ensure we have up to date contact details and current mobile phone numbers. Without these, we cannot contact you in emergencies and you will not receive information texts when we send them.

Please also remember to update the school with any important information changes regarding your child.

School Dinners

As of 1st April 2013 school meals have to be paid for either in advance or on the day the meal is taken. No child can be served a meal without prior payment.

From Sept 2018 we will be using ParentPay a secure service for dinner money payment.  Parents who need to continue making payments by cash may do so using the PayPoint network at local convenience stores.

Payments may also be made at the start of each term if preferred. Any dinners not taken due to absence will be carried forward.

School meals are £2.20 per day and £11.00 per week.

Safeguarding & Promoting Welfare of Children

At Chaucer Junior School we are committed to our duty of safeguarding and promoting the safety and welfare of all children. More information is available in the About Us section of the website.

If you have any concerns about the safety of any child at school please contact any of the following people;

  • Head Teacher
  • Any member of staff, who will then direct your concern to the appropriate person
  • A school Governor (a list can be seen here). Mr Jason Smith is the nominated school governor in this area.

Parking During Drop-off and Pick-up Times

Firstly, we remind you that the yellow zig-zags outside the school gates should be left clear at all times. Secondly, cars should not be parked on the pavements. Thank you for your consideration as we work together to keep our children safe.

Bike / Scooter Racks

We are delighted about the number of children coming to school on bikes and scooters. This is a great, healthy way of travelling to and from school and we actively encourage this. However, it is the responsibility of the owner to secure their bike or scooter.

Due to new Derbyshire County Council guidelines we must make parents aware that; Bikes and Scooters are left entirely at the owner's risk.

Bad Weather

We always endeavour to keep the school open. Bad weather procedures and policies for this can be found here.

Please ensure your child is adhering to the school's uniform policy and are wearing the school colours of red / blue. Please click here for more info.

During the school year the children will occasionally watch films. Teaching staff always make sure the films are suitable but they my be classified PG (Parental Guidance). If any parent does not wish their child to watch a PG film, please see the child's class teacher.
