Values Based Curriculum (CORE VALUES)

“Quiet Revolution to empower individuals to be effective learners & good citizens.”

On Monday 12th November 2018 we will be Launching our Values Based Curriculum.

With thanks to Dr. Neil Hawkes, Founder of Values-based Education (VbE)

Values are principles that guide behaviour. Although we have always taught these we now want these to be clearer and have a higher profile in school.  We want these values to be used daily in and out of school, for the children to know why they are so important.

At Chaucer Junior School adults will model values and give time for reflective practices.

Our role as educators is to give “unconditional positive regard to all children!”

We believe that this empowers individuals to be effective learners and good citizens.

Our Values-based education philosophy, underpins our work to actively promote fundamental British values of democracy, individual liberty, mutual respect and tolerance of those from all faiths, backgrounds and cultures.  A rounded programme of assemblies and events promote children's spiritual, moral, social and cultural development, enabling them to develop their own moral and ethical compass to guide what is right and what is wrong.

Our Values

Currently there are 8 main values at Chaucer Junior School. We focus on one or two values every term over the year. Each value has several reflection points, which enables us all to share and understand a common values vocabulary.

We feel that these values are key to children’s success, as effective learners and good citizens, so they will be covered every year.

Core Value all based on RESPECT
Cycle 1 -Autumn TermTolerance
Cycle 2 -Autumn TermKindness
Cycle 1 -Spring TermCo-operation
Cycle 2 -Spring TermResilience
Cycle  1-Summer TermAppreciation
Cycle 2 -Summer TermAspiration

I have no doubt that as parents/carers you promote these values at home all the time.

In order for us to celebrate the partnership between home and school we are asking children to bring in examples from home of how they demonstrate the different values.

Each time a new value is introduced you will get short note explaining how you can share examples from home (an example is attached to this letter).

We will display these in the school hall.  It could be a photo, a drawing, a note to explain how or anything that shows how your child has demonstrated the value.  There will be a family prize each month for the winning entry.

Let us work together to ensure we make all our children the best they can be socially and academically.
