Year 3 - 3HR, 3GS

Here is the welcome letter that was sent out on the first day of Y3:

Dear Parents/Carers,

We would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to our Year 3 team. Included within this letter are a few important notices ready for the year ahead.  As we begin the new academic year, we look forward to welcoming you and your children to our school.

P.E.

Children in Year 3 will have PE on a Thursday, starting next week (16th Sept). On this day, children should come to school in their kit. PE kits should include dark bottoms, a white t-shirt and sensible sport shoes alongside a school jumper. This will be closely monitored this year.

Homework

Homework will be set each Friday and should be completed by the following Friday. We understand that it can sometimes be difficult to motivate your child to complete their homework but appreciate your support with this. We also recognise the work that children put in to their homework and therefore, each week, we will set time aside to reward those who have completed it all.

  • Spelling – these will be set every Friday, once we have got to know the children a little better and set up our phonics and spelling groups. A list will be sent home in children’s organisers and there will be a task set on Spelling Shed each week to give children time to practise. Each child has a login for this (to be found in the password section of organisers) and it can be accessed on phones, iPads, tablets and computers. In your child’s organiser, you will also find a list of spellings that children are expected to spell by the end of KS2.
  • Times tables – children will be set homework on ‘Times Tables Rockstar’ each week. Each child has a login for this and it can be accessed on phones, iPads, tablets and computers.
  • Reading - children will be able to choose a book from the school library. At the Juniors, we use the Accelerated Reader programme which closely matches books to your child’s ability. Children in Lower School are expected to read a minimum of 30 minutes per week – to be signed in their personal organiser (with a comment if time). This can be completed in one go or split over multiple evenings. This regular reading will help children to be successful with meeting their targets in school. Where possible, we would encourage children to read aloud and answer questions about what they have read to ensure their understanding of the text.

Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions through Seesaw (parent and child logins will be sent out soon), phone or in person.

Thank you for your support!

Mr Smith, Miss Richards and the Year 3 team.
