Potatoes For Schools 2022
As in previous years we have joined the Grow Your Own Potatoes initiative. This year will be slightly different as they have had to find a new funding source. They were very lucky in finding the Potato House company in Scotland. There will be a competition this year to see who nationally has the heaviest weight of potatoes in one bag. Everyone will be growing the same varieties of potatoes this year, Casablanca and Sarpo Una. Whereas normally you would grow your own regional variety. We were very lucky in receiving two kits though and have already planted our seed potatoes in the growing bags provided. We are also doing an under the soil experiment with two extra potatoes given, so over the next few weeks the children can watch the potatoes grow in a plastic bottle and watch the root system.
We'll let you know how we get on in a few weeks time as the potatoes start to grow.
