A Special Visitor
We've had a special visitor come to Chaucer Juniors. In between her busy training schedule we have had the pleasure of meeting hammer thrower Anna Purchase. Anna has qualified for the Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham representing Team England. Anna came to speak in the assembly and the children were very quickly taken by her story and what Anna hopes to achieve. She started throwing at the age of 13 and this is when she got spotted by her first coach. She is currently studying at the University of California, Berkeley but before that she studied at the University of Nebraska. Her throwing has taken her all around the world, including Estonia, Spain, Australia and 15 states of the USA. This year she has improved to be the second British woman to ever break the 70m barrier and is still currently the 2nd best British woman of all time, which is amazing. Anna is so excited to have the opportunity to compete at the games as it's her first major championships and with her being a local girl, she can compete in front of her family and a home crowd. Some of the children then got to ask Anna some questions after being presented with a 'Good Luck' poster which she is taking to the games, this was made by some of Year 4.
We wish Anna all the luck in the world at the games, such a lovely lady who deserves all the success for her hard work. We would like to thank her for visiting us and inspiring our children to believe anything is possible if you work hard enough for it!
