Forest Schools, Mr Higgins Class
A gorgeous autumnal afternoon with Dolphin class, who were so pleased to be at forest schools. Our focus of the day was self-awareness and lots of the children showed that they were being very self-aware. We had a mindful moment in the woods, lying on their backs watching the clouds and concentrating on elephant breathing. Then the children was so keen to collect the items for the scavenger hunt bringing me sycamore seeds, bright red leaves and Y shaped sticks. The children enjoyed what was in the scavenger hunt. Next we had a game of crows and cranes which was great fun with children rolling around on the field getting muddy. We gathered pine cones, lard, string and some bird seeds - the children getting ready for the cold weather - made some natural bird feeders to take home and hang in their garden. A smaller group was working with our volunteer making broomsticks ready for Halloween, which were also very successful with the children riding those around the field. Camouflage hide and seek was fabulous, losing the whole class at one point. Our final game was the game of double bluffing called mosquitoes, salmon and bears. The children all gave our session 10/10. Great to see children being outside enjoying nature and connecting with each other. Big thank you to Miss Hoult and Mrs Wheatley and our volunteer for this week.
